Tyler Memorial United Methodist Church

“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.” Genesis 2:24

Congratulations! Marriage is a wonderful institution established by God. It is the joining together of a man and a woman in a lifetime commitment of fidelity, care, and support. As such, it should be entered into reverently and carefully.

We are happy that you have chosen to be married at Tyler Memorial United Methodist Church.  We want to plan with you a wedding service which is both meaningful and appropriate.

Arrangements:

An interview with the pastor is required before a date for the service can be set. After the initial interview, the pastor will arrange for subsequent pre-marriage counseling sessions, with a minimum of three sessions required.

The pastor of Tyler Memorial United Methodist Church is to officiate at all weddings.  In the event the couple wishes to be married by a pastor not related to Tyler Memorial United Methodist Church, the pastor of Tyler Memorial United Methodist Church must be consulted. Subsequent to approval, and according to ministerial ethics, the pastor of Tyler Memorial United Methodist Church will write a letter to the pastor, inviting him/her to officiate.

Sanctuary:

There is no charge for the use of the Sanctuary if the Bride, Groom, or their parents are members of Tyler Church. All others pay a $150.00 fee.

Payment should be made to Tyler Memorial United Methodist Church.

Organist:

If the church organist is needed, there is a minimum fee of $60.00 charged. This fee is charged regardless of church affiliation. The fee increases to $75 when there is a soloist, as this involves extra work for the organist.

Payment should be made directly to the organist.

Custodian:

The custodial fee is for setting-up the wedding and cleaning-up afterwards. The fees are as follows (regardless of church affiliation):

                Wedding Ceremony only                         $50.00

                Wedding, Rehearsal, and Reception        $100.00

Payment should be made directly to the custodian.

Pianist:

The fees for a pianist are the same as those for an organist. See the listing above.

Pastor:

While there is no set fee for the services of the pastor, his/her services are important and his/her honorarium should be carefully considered for his/her time spent in counseling, the rehearsal, officiating at the wedding. The honorarium should be in keeping with the cost of the wedding.

On those occasions when a guest pastor is being invited to come and participate in the wedding ceremony, and travel is involved, the expenses for such travel should be paid in addition to the amount of honorarium determined appropriate.

Payment should be made directly to the pastor.

Fellowship Hall:

There is a charge of $100.00 for the use of the Fellowship Hall for a wedding reception. This includes kitchen privileges.

This is in addition to the charge for custodial services.

Guidelines:

To help ensure that your wedding ceremony goes smoothly, please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  • The use of tobacco is prohibited in the building.
  • The use, or possession of, illegal drugs or alcohol is prohibited on church property. Any member of the wedding party who is found to possess, or to be under the influence of such substances, will be asked to leave the church property immediately. If the bride or groom is found to be in possession of, or under the influence of, illegal drugs or alcohol, the marriage ceremony will be canceled with no refund of applied fees.
  • The engaged couple is responsible for providing the pastor with their marriage license before the wedding ceremony begins.
  • The wedding ceremony is a religious service. As such, a certain “reverence” for God is to be maintained in all elements of the marriage ceremony. Please refrain from selecting music, readings, etc. with abusive/profane language, sexual content, or other inappropriate elements.  The pastor reserves the right to reject the use of any proposed music, readings, etc. he/she feels to be inappropriate to the sanctity of the occasion or the Christian message. (Besides, you want a ceremony you will be proud to talk about in years to come!)
  • Flash photographs may be taken when the bridal party enters the sanctuary and after the wedding ceremony is complete. During the ceremony, pictures may be taken only with available light (no flash photography or floodlights). Operators of video cameras should pick a location, and stay there. Moving around the sanctuary during the ceremony for a “better shot” is distracting and not allowed.
  • Decorations are allowed in the sanctuary. Please be sure to return the sanctuary to its original condition following your ceremony. If you have any questions, consult with the pastor.
  • Rice and/or birdseed must be thrown outside of the church building.
  • All weddings will be conducted in accordance with the standards and practices of The United Methodist Church.
